Tripoli Airport (TIP) is an international airport located in Tripoli, the capital of Libya. It is situated approximately 34 km (21 miles) from downtown Tripoli. The airport originally opened in the 1930s. Tripoli is Libya’s largest city and serves as its political and economic center. TIP featured a first-class lounge on the upper level reserved for business- and first-class passengers, offering seating, refreshments and basic Wi-Fi. Hotel and Sleeping
There is no on-site hotel at TIP. The closest commercial accommodations are around 15 km away in central Tripoli, such as the Marhaba Plaza Hotel, with free Wi-Fi and dining. Rest Area and Sleeping in Airport
TIP did not offer dedicated rest zones or sleep pods. The terminal had basic seating throughout and a prayer room, but no cots or nap cabins. No overnight stay was permitted outside VIP lounges. After closure and damage in 2014, the terminal is now inoperative.

WIFI/Internet and SIM Card

WIFI/Internet: Free Wi-Fi was available throughout the TIP terminal via the airport’s network, though signal strength and speed varied. Mobile charging stations were installed near key gate areas. VIP lounges provided stronger, more reliable connections. No premium paid-Wi-Fi packages were offered.

SIM/eSIM Card: Upon arrival, travelers could purchase prepaid SIM or eSIM plans from kiosks or local shops. Transportation to/from airport

Taxi: Licensed taxis queue outside the arrivals hall. Fares are unmetered and must be negotiated before boarding; a Tripoli centre ride (24 km) typically costs LYD 8–12. Shared taxis lower individual cost. Pre-booked limo transfers can be arranged via concierge services.

Train: There is no passenger rail network in Libya and no train link to TIP. Ground transport relies entirely on road vehicles—taxis, buses and private cars. more info

Bus: No dedicated airport shuttle bus serves TIP. Intercity coaches operate from Tripoli’s central Suq al-Juma station, run by Al-Sahha and Al-Barq lines along the coast. To reach TIP, travelers take a taxi or pre-booked transfer to the bus hub. more info
